Friday
Restless today. I am beginning to see all the things I wanted to do in the house over the past few weeks and completely forgot about. I can see them, but I'm not capable of doing anything about them yet. Maybe tomorrow.
Andy, the friend who came with his wife to visit the other day is a musician. He plays tonight at a local bar and Michael thinks it would be nice for us to go and support him. I agree.
For me, though, that requires preparation in the form of rest and a nap. I'm becoming more aware of how little energy I have and that I can't waste any. .
Andy and his band start playing at 8:30pm so we decide to go at about 8:00pm to be sure to get a good table. The food is really good, so we plan to have dinner there. Michael and I sit across from each other at a table right in front of the band and watch them do a sound check. Sound check completed, the begin to play. Classic rock and Andy sounds great.
I send a text message to Aidan, a friend of Andy's and Michael's - an ex-coworker or mine - someone who played baseball with my kids almost 40 years ago - and very special to me.
Me; "We're watching Andy. Where are you? Why aren't you here?" (Inflicting guilt on Aidan is one of my best skills - and he loves it)
Aidan: "LOL - As a matter of fact, I'm coming up with my friend, Mike, from work. We should be there in an hour - or less than an hour." That was at 8:30pm. (Andy used to be my supervisor - Aidan worked across the hall from me, and although Mike was at the other end of the building, I knew who he was.)
Me: "9:45pm here. Do the hands on your clock move slower than mine?" (jab jab)
Aidan: "LMAO - We're almost there."
Me: "Good! See you soon! (smiley face)" I wondered if Aidan and I defined "soon" the same way.
Aidan arrives and sits next to me - Mike sits next to Michael - and the laughter begins. Aidan is not especially touchy-feely - not very demonstrative, so I was surprised when he put his arm around me and laid his hand on the center of my back, patting me, comfortingly. He kept his arm around me most of the night. It was an extremely caring thing for him to do. It made the night easier.
Andy came and sat with us during the band breaks. It was fun - dinner was really good - loved the music - and the company was wonderful. It was great to be surrounded by so many people I care about. Love is always healing.
We stayed later than usual and didn't leave the bar until about midnight. A big night for us. We were tired by the time we got home. I'm so glad we went.
Thank you, God, for caring people and opportunities for healing.
