Today I went with my "tomato friend" to meet her parents and friends of ours who live in an assisted living facility (is that the right name?) for lunch. The facility is about an hour and a half from us - beautiful ride - gorgeous day - great company.
My friend went to visit with her parents in their apartment while I visited with our friends (let's call them Gary and Nel) in theirs - and then we all planned to meet in the dining room for lunch.
I've known Gary and Nel for at least 30 years. The last time I saw them was about a year ago in their house near the beach. I won't wait so long for a "next time". They have a small apartment in the facility with picturesque views of the countryside and every convenience they need, It was a wonderful move for them. Nel has a beautiful smile that speaks freedom - from worry - from caring for a house that had become a burden - from feeling unsafe and insecure. Gary looks wonderful - golf agrees with him.
I talked with them both about Greg (they knew him well) - my faith (or lack thereof on some days) - about heaven and whether there is any scriptural evidence that people would know each other in heaven. (The Bible says... "yes"). I told them about having dinner with their oldest two daughters and how kind each one of their daughters had been to me always - but especially since Greg died. They told me about their new life in their new home and how good it's been for both of them.
1:00 arrived quickly and it was time to meet Carol and her parents for lunch.
I can't remember the last time I saw Carol's mother, but she looks exactly the same to me - same smile - same warmth and kindness. Carol's father wasn't feeling well and didn't come downstairs for lunch. I hope to see him the next time I go.
It was a nice day - wonderful to visit friends - great to see Carol's mother again after much too long - loved spending time with Carol.
It's been a busy week - maybe too busy. I don't know.
I'm trying.
