Long day, but a good one.
I was sitting on the front porch this morning when Richard came to drop Chase off at my house. He got out of the car, running toward me, his arms wide open. I especially love that first hug. I reached out and pulled him onto my lap, held him close and whispered in his ear how much I love him, how special he is to me, and how happy I am that he came to visit. Chase's hugs are long and lingering. He melts me.
We played out new Animal Logic game, which Chase really liked, and then we put together a 100 piece puzzle with a picture of a yellow Lab puppy. Every time Chase found a match for a puzzle piece, we had a high five. We finished just in time to meet Chase's daddy for lunch at their favorite place.
After lunch, my son (Chase's dad) went back to lunch and Chase and I headed home.
"Chase... It's such a pretty day, would you like to go to the Children's' Museum instead of back to my house?"
"No thanks, Grammie. Let's just go to your house."
"Would you like to stop at Rita's on the way for a water ice?"
"No, thank you, Grammie. I'm full. Can we watch a movie and snuggle at your house?"
"We sure can, Chase." (Who doesn't love a movie and a snuggle???)
We watched part of a movie (and snuggled) and then Chase decided that he wanted to make some bracelets before he went home. This was a new one, but... why not? We made bracelets for everyone in his family. He made matching bracelets for his dad and him.
And then it was time to take him home. :-(
It was great to have Chase visit today. I love to have them visit individually. Each child has different things they like to do - a different pace for the day - different things they like to talk about. They're all different - each one special in his or her own way.
In a sad and lonely time, they are a reminder of all that's good in the world - and in my life.
I need to remember each one of these sweet faces at 3:00 am when the world comes crashing down on me - a feat that requires a full measure of God's grace.
Sleep well tonight, Chase.
I love you ~ forever and always.
