Penn Lung Center

Wednesday

This morning we left right after 8:30 for a 10:00am appointment at the University of Pennsylvania Lung Center.  I made the appointment about four months ago, so there was no canceling.  I had to go.

It took over an hour and a half to travel what should have taken about 30 minutes - BUT we got to enjoy the morning traffic on the westbound Schuylkill Expressway.  Thankfully, it was a pretty day - a great day for sitting on the Schuylkill.  :-)

From where I entered the Schuylkill to where I needed to exit was .9 mile.  In that .9 mile, I had to move from the far left-hand lane - across 5 lanes  - to end up in the far right hand lane to exit.   Surprisingly, someone let me in on each lane change until I was in the correct lane to exit.  Maybe it really is the City of Brotherly Love.

Anyway... after first going to the wrong building, we finally ended up in the right place.  It was a good visit - first time seeing this doctor and I liked her.  Nothing they can do to change the condition of my lungs - they're surprised that the CT scan from last year and the CT scan from this year are almost the same.  There doesn't seem to be any additional scar tissue. Good news.

So... blah blah blah... tests... pulmonary rehab... back in December.

I found that even though this was a pretty good day, I forgot my phone in the car and didn't realize it until the valet parking dude had taken the van from the front of the hospital.  Michael went to the valet parking desk to retrieve my phone (they had to bring the car back) while I went upstairs to sign in at the doctor's office; I started to cry twice in the doctor's office for no apparent reason, and when we went downstairs to retrieve the car, I realized that I had stopped in the ladies' room before we went to valet parking and - I left my phone on the sink.

The valet service brought the car to the front of the building, just as I turned (on my scooter) to retrieve my phone from the ladies' room.  We had the whole valet parking lane clogged up while I went on a search for the Security office after I found that my phone was no longer in the ladies' room.  Security did have my phone and I made it back out to the valet parking area so that Michael (waiting patiently) could load my scooter.

Going home was a lot easier (we only got semi-lost once).

On the best days, I still find myself scattered - disjointed.  Everything throws me.

I guess the importance of today's trip was enough to rattle me a little, but nothing is easy.  What normally would not throw me - throws me.

Tired tonight - hopefully too tired for an overactive mind.

We'll see.
