Waiting

I'm waiting for a day without tears - don't know if that day will ever come, so I'll try to live my life in the spaces between the tears and hope that the people who have been so kind to me won't lose patience with me too quickly.

Busy day, but mostly busy at home.  The only out-of-the-house thing we did today was to make a trip to the hospital for some medical tests for Michael that went well.  It was kind of a low key - sloppy Joe's for dinner - Little League World Series on television - semi-mellow kind of day.  Good thing, because tomorrow   ::::drum roll:::: I have Chase (5 years old)!

Richard and Julie have been kind enough to lend me two kids in one week.  I must be the luckiest grandparent ever!

I've been to the dollar store.  I have a new puzzle - a couple of new cars - some glow-in-the-dark bracelets to send home to Brynn and Kate - a new game.  I'm ready!

Chase is brains-on-fire smart (and sweet) with a strange and wonderful sense of humor and a  great imagination.

You should know that Julie says that when Chase is not telling the truth, he talks out of the side of his mouth.

The last time Chase's family was all here for dinner, Chase went quietly into the kitchen (we have a "chocolate" drawer in the kitchen that always has chocolate in it), looking suspect.  When he came out of the kitchen, he had a Hershey Kiss in his hand.  He looked at his mother to see if she saw him.  She was looking right at him.  Caught!

He quickly changed direction, walked toward me, and as he held the Hershey Kiss out to me, said (out of the corner of his mouth), "I got this for you, Grammie."  Everyone at the table cracked up,

I think I replied something like, "Wow! Thanks, Chase!  Why don't you go back and get one for yourself?"

He had this 'who-me?-get-a-Hershey-Kiss-for-me?" kind of surprised look on his face.  More laughter.  But it took him less than a second to head back to the kitchen.  Minutes later he came back out, grinning, holding his Hershey Kiss in the air. (Personally, I think it was misdirection and he had 3 more in his pocket).

Who knows what he has in store for this visit.

I can hardly wait until tomorrow!

  1. And I can hardly wait to hear about all of the adventures!! Once again you are describing one of your grandchildren in such a way that I feel as though I can actually see and hear him...just as I did with Brynn the other day!!
